Kearney, Wells, Wesley, Beck, Warford named 2017 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Donovan Catholic’s (Toms River, N.J.) Jayda Kearney, Lakeview’s (Cortland, Ohio) Tori Wells, Neshoba Central’s (Philadelphia, Miss.) Aspen Wesley, Ellinwood’s (Kan.) Brittney Beck and Juanita’s (Kirkland, Wash) Kristina Warford were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week winners for their outstanding play during the week of April 24-30.

East Region
Kearney hit .889 (8-for-9) with two doubles, two triples, a home run, 10 RBI and five runs scored. She slugged 1.888 and recorded a .909 on-base percentage. She highlighted her week by going 2-for-2 with a triple, homer, four RBI and three runs scored versus Barnegat. The freshman was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBI and two runs scored versus Point Pleasant Boro. She opened the week with a double and three RBI in a 9-5 win over Manchester Township.

North Region
In two games against Struthers, Wells launched five home runs, slugged an astronomical 2.750 and drove in 11 runs. She opened the week by going 4-for-5 with a pair of long balls and a season-high six RBI in a 25-4 victory. A day later, all three of her hits left the park as Struthers recorded five RBI and scored three times in a 7-1 triumph. For the week, she hit .875 (7-for-8) and posted a 889 on-base percentage.

South Region
Wesley guided the Rockets to a pair of victories over Lake Cormorant as she surrendered just one hit and struck out 33 of 38 batters she faced as opponents hit just .027 against her. The sophomore hurler tossed a pair of six-inning shutouts, including a no-hitter in the second matchup. In that contest, she was a walk away from a perfect game, striking out 16 in the 9-0 victory. Two days earlier, she surrendered one hit and matched a season-high with 17 strikeouts in a 10-0 win against the Gators.

South Central Region
Beck powered Ellinwood to a doubleheader sweep of Russell last week. Highlighted by a two-homer, 10-RBI contest, she hit .889 (8-for-9) with two doubles, a triple, two homers, 13 RBI and five runs scored. In game two, Beck was 5-for-5 with a triple, two long balls, 10 RBI and three runs scored in a 21-6 victory. In the 11-5 game-one win, she was 3-for-4 with both doubles, three RBI and two runs. In the doubleheader, Beck slugged an eye-popping 2.000.

West Region
Guiding Juanita to three victories last week, Warford was 9-for-11 with seven extra-base hits, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored. Her five doubles, triple and homer attributed to a 1.727 slugging percentage. In a 30-15 triumph over Interlake, Warford was a perfect 5-for-5 with four doubles, eight RBI and six runs scored, all season highs. She drove in six more runs with a double and long ball as the Rebels topped Mercer Island, 13-3. Warford capped off her amazing week, with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in a 15-0 blanking of Sammamish.

The 2017 MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of the five regions. During the fall campaign, one player from participating regions is selected.
