Potter risks further Brighton wrath as Chelsea watch star player ‘more than carefully’

Graham Potter risks further wrath from the Brighton fans with Chelsea reportedly watching star forward Leandro Trossard ‘more than carefully’.

Trossard has been in fine form for the Seagulls this season, scoring seven Premier League goals, including a hat-trick against Liverpool and the opener in the 4-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday.

And his performance against Potter’s Blues ‘could speed up’ a transfer to Stamford Bridge, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Reports have previously suggested Trossard would consider a Brighton exit if the right offer arrived, with the Belgium international wanting to play Champions League football.

Tavolieri tweeted before Trossard helped Brighton to victory over Chelsea: ‘About #ChelseaFC : Interesting to see how Leandro #Trossard will play today as #CFC are watching more than carefully the Belgian Red Devil. Confirmed.

‘His performance this afternoon could speed up the interest of the Blues on his profile.’

The Brighton fans serenaded Potter with chants of ‘Potter, Potter what’s the score?’ and ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ as Brighton tore Chelsea apart at the Amex on Saturday.

Asked about his reception at the Amez after the game, Potter said: “I have nothing to apologise or say sorry for. I think I did a good job at the club and left it in a good place but people are entitled to their opinions.

“It’s part of the process. You have to suffer and feel pain in order to grow and get better. Nobody said we were the finished article. We have to take the pain today and learn from it.”

On the 4-1 loss, Potter added: “Yes of course the score line and the defeat is a painful one. We didn’t really recover. Once the crowd were so engaged it was a difficult one for us. The score line was painful. Brighton played a good game, especially in the first half.

“You can always look at goals and think you can do better. We have to take responsibility a bit in the first half. We have had a lot of football but that’s no excuse. We couldn’t quite get to that level. We didn’t take our opportunities in attack and they did.”
