SUNDAY NEWS UPDATE

Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair were pulled from the Charlotte show as well. It was said something like unforeseen circumstances that as of yet nobody has acknowledged. A WWE source said they didn’t know if they would be in Columbia, SC for the house show tonight. We were told it was something that came up at the last minute.

Regarding ratings, Friday numbers come out on Monday afternoons. There are overnights for networks (and they do exist for cable but nobody reports them) but they are a completely different measurement. In this case, Smackdown did 2,499,000 but that would be inaccurate because it included NFL broadcasts on FOX in several major markets as the overnights only measures the station, not the show, and only the major markets. Based on that category, and again, this would only be based on major markets, Rampage did 69.5% of what Dynamite did on Wednesday in total households. That doesn’t factor in viewers per home and it’s only major markets. Smackdown did do better than usual in the big cities, but losing Detroit and Atlanta may mean the overall number will be down. Basically any comparison of Smackdown if it’s down from  last week would be flawed because you have major markets that didn’t air the show in the usual time slot. And the overnight number is basically meaningless under these circumstances.

With no UFC this week nor major boxing events, nothing in combat sports made the Google search list this week except the boxing debut Nico Ali Wash, the grandson of Muhammad Ali had 20,000 searches this morning. Walsh, 21, knocked out Jordan Weeks in a middleweight bout last night in Catoosa, OK.

Regarding the Roman Reigns-John Cena promo on Friday, some of this is coming from Ringside News and confirmed by our WWE sources. John Cena was responsible for his lines.  Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman were responsible for their lines. Michael Kirschenbaum was the writer, but his job was just to keep it promo going off the rails and he was the guy who was accountable to Vince McMahon, and to make sure Kevin Dunn knew the music cues. There was no rehearsal. But it should be noted Cena always writes his own promos and Reigns and Heyman are now pretty much writing the Reigns promos so it’s not like any of this was unusual or different past Cena, Reigns and Heyman wanted to put some shock value into it to get people talking.

Stardom’s Saturday and Sunday shows in Niigata and Nagano were canceled due to several wrestlers being in contact with someone who tested positive. Right now the expectation is they will return to having shows on Saturday night in Takamatsu.  The Five Star Grand Prix matches scheduled for the two missed shows will have to be made up later.  In addition, ring announcer Yurie Kozakai tested positive. She’s a model for a Japanese talent agency who also does ring announcing. Her agency made that announcement.

Funeral services for Dominic DeNucci will be at William Murphy Funeral Home at 349 Adams St., in Rochester, PA. Viewing is tomorrow from 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 p.m..  The funeral will be Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.  We talked about DeNucci on last night’s show and later this week will talk even more about his career.
