The March 27th episode of WWE Smackdown Live drew an average of 2.58 million viewers, down a staggering 10.7% from last week’s show.
This week’s Smackdown saw the lowest numbers since February 13th coming off one of the highest rated episodes of the last year. The advertised main event was Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Shelton Benjamin, as well as a non-title bout between Charlotte Flair and Natalya that was cancelled when the Smackdown Women’s Champion was pulled at the last minute due to a minor injury. Daniel Byan was also on hand to issue a WrestleMania challenge to Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, and Rusev scored a pin over Randy Orton to be added to the Fatal 4-Way United States Championship match at WrestleMania 34.
One reason the numbers may have been so down is that it was assumed ahead of time that several top stars including Shane McMahon, Owens, Zayn and Charlotte would not be appearing on the show. Next week is the final Smackdown before WrestleMania so it will be “all hands on deck” and WWE will obviously be looking for some good numbers to take them into the Showcase of the Immortals.
