9/9 WWE Raw Viewership Drops 15% Against Monday Night Football’s Return

Monday Night Raw has enjoyed five consecutive weeks of relatively stable viewership with some of the best numbers since WrestleMania season, but that was all put to the test this week with the return of the NFL’s juggernaut – Monday Night Football.

It was expected that numbers would be down this week as WWE went head-to-head against the regular season debut of the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints on ESPN. In the end, Raw was down 15% week-over-week, averaging 2.13 million viewers.

Raw’s first hour was seen by 2.36 million, dropping to 2.18 million in the second hour, and dropping even further to just 1.85 million for the third and final hour. That’s the first time in nearly three months any hour of the show drew under two million viewers.

The first four spots on cable this Monday night were dominated by ESPN. The Houston/New Orleans game at 7PM was watched by 13.08 million people, drawing a 4.4 rating in adults 18-49. The Denver/Oakland game at 10:30PM was watched by 10.62 million with a 3.8 rating in the target demo.
