Brazil, Serbia, Russia and Cuba will fight for the medals. The favorite is of course Brazil, eight-time World League champions and title holder.

But according to the present shape of “canarinhos” everything is still possible. Brazil will take advantage from their experience while other teams are young, re-built and eager to win something.

Brazil hasn’t showed a perfect performance yet however due to their experience managed to win twice over their competitors. Although we might have expected a tough game between “canarinhos” and Serbia, a tie-break with Argentina was a major surprise. In both matches team of coach Bernardo Rezende managed to win but it’s still not the Brazilian style we all are used to watching. Anyway Murilo, Dante and Leandro Visotto are in the great shape and are doing their best to make it possible for Brazil to win their ninth World League champion title. Young team of Serbia is the second team from pool E which will be fighting for the medals. Sasa Starovic and his team-mates showed a great will to fight in the game against Brazil and wonderful skills against hosts of the final tournament. This team is playing better and better from one game to another and got real possibility to play for the gold. However it might be tricky because Serbia will clash in the semi-final with Russia which plays at the excellent level too.

Russia confirmed their perfect shape by winning over Italy and Cuba. Both victories were achieved in tie-break like in the case of Brazil but unlike “canarinhos” they were thrilling games played at the very high level by both teams. Russians especially showed their excellent skills in serve and block, which may lead team of coach Daniele Bagnoli to the final game. Dmitriy Muserskiy and Maxim Mikhaylov are true leaders of “sborna” and scoring as much as possible. Also Cuba got promoted to the semi-final from pool F. Cubans after the tough game against Russia got back to their high level and didn’t leave any chance for Italy by winning with them in straight sets. Young star of Cuba, Wilfredo Leon is doing great and with the support of his team-mates we might expect some surprise in their semi-final clash with Brazil.
