Why Tommy Robinson and the rise of the alt-right is provoking alarm in Australia

Tommy Robinson is already a hero to America’s alt-right. Now the far-right figure is aiming to woo Australia with a planned visit that has already provoked a backlash. 

The former leader of the English Defence League is scheduled to tour Down Under next month, alongside Canadian Gavin McInnes, the leader of the far-right Proud Boys group. 

Mr Robinson – born Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – is on bail after being charged with contempt of court. He was arrested in May and is accused of broadcasting on social media from outside Leeds Crown Court about an Asian grooming sex trial that had strict reporting restrictions placed on it.
