SPOKANE, WA – Ryan Rowe is taking the ultimate fishing trip. He’s committed to spend one minute fishing for every homeless child living in Spokane County to raise money for charity – that’s 3,500 minutes, 58-1/2 hours, or 2-1/2 days.

Rowe’s goal is to get people to donate $10 for each minute he’s fishing. The $35,000 he could raise this weekend will go toward his goal of raising $100,000 for Family Promise of Spokane, a nonprofit that helps poor or homeless children and families.

“Family Promise operates the only homeless 24/7 walk-in emergency shelter in Spokane for children and families. They are turning away homeless families every day and desperately need a larger facility that can help more families. They are moving into a bigger facility, but they have many needs to get it ready for the families,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Rowe’s fishing trip began on Friday morning. The effort was first reported by the Spokesman Review.

Rowe got the idea for the 3,500-minute marathon after he live-streamed a fly-fishing trip he took earlier this year. To his surprise, lots of people tuned-in. He figured if people would watch him fish, he could turn his hobby into a fundraiser, he told the Spokesman Review.

The fishing trip will be happening at Silver Lake. You can donate online here, but also stop by the lake to see Rowe in person. He’ll have a charity bucket set up there.
