Update: While a week ago it seemed Overkill’s The Walking Dead was still set for release on PS4 and Xbox One, Skybound Entertainment, overseer of The Walking Dead license, has now announced the game will no longer be coming to consoles, and support for it on PC will be discontinued.

Skybound Entertainment has released a statement regarding the future of Overkill’s The Walking Dead, explaining that the PC version’s support will now end and that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will not be released.

Despite reports suggesting the console version of Overkill’s The Walking Dead had been canceled, one of the game’s publishers has gone on record saying it’s simply been postponed.

Confirmed by publisher 505 Games on Twitter, the company states “We just wanted to clear the position on the Overkill’s The Walking Dead on console and confirm that the game has not been cancelled, purely postponed whilst development is on-going. We will share further news as soon as possible.”

The rumor that indicated Overkill’s The Walking Dead had been canceled began when users who pre-ordered the game on the PlayStation Store allegedly started receiving an automated message informing customers of the cancelation. Images of this message can be found on Reddit.

It was announced in 2015 that Overkill’s The Walking Dead was being developed for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. During E3 2018, it was announced that the game would be released in November, though that was ultimately only the PC version of the game. The console port was pushed back to February 2019, though it appears to have been delayed even further.

In our review of Overkill’s The Walking Dead on PC, we called the game “Mediocre” saying “Co-op zombie-splattering will never be devoid of fun, but Overkill’s The Walking Dead is lacking in both the series’ storytelling and technical polish.”
