RivCo Teacher Goes Hog-Wild As 'Bacon Intern'

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A Riverside County teacher recently completed her “bacon internship,” a single day of pork-inspired work at Farmer Boys, as she tasted and rated the restaurant chain’s dishes — a job posting that attracted multiple candidates nationwide.

The one-day gig paid $1,000 to eat, sample and review bacon products at the Southern California eatery, and pork-lovers responded en masse.

The competion’s winner — Mona Godfrey, a child development and child psychology instructor at Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley — posted an entry video in the online competition, that apparently so dazzled judges that she beat out competitors vying for the slot.

Godfrey daily teaches teens in the classroom, but this restaurant gig — “eat bacon and get paid for it” — was a squeal of a deal, and her students, even in their hard-to-impress age range, were agog with her selection and notoriety.

“My students were BEYOND excited for me!,” Godfrey said. “Of course, with teens nowadays, social media is everything to them, so when they started seeing me on the Los Angeles news stations and Instagram after being announced as the Bacon Intern, they kept saying, ‘Mrs. G you’re famous,’ followed by ‘Did you get paid yet?'”

Eating her favorite food — and being handsomely paid to do it— was the highlight of being Famer Boys’ first-ever bacon intern, Godfrey said, along with fun interaction with customers as she walked throughout a Farmer Boys locale passing out bacon-menu items and greeting patrons.

Among lessons learned in her one-day internship, the newly bacon-schooled Godfrey highlighted that bacon needs a careful balance when incorporating into a dish. “You really have to make sure that it stands out, but doesn’t overpower other foods, or the opposite not being able to detect it,” she said.

While the school teacher had zero complaints, whatsoever, about her one-day, enviable job, she did report that by day’s end, she was stuffed: “Sampling 14 dishes, even with just a few bites, really was a TASK!!! The food is so good and so BIG!,” she said.

As to what Godfrey wore to work that day? The bacon garb, as seen in the photos? That costume, she said, was “all mine.”
