The then Department of Social Welfare in 1969 had developed a social defense mechanism; the scheme of ‘Short Stay Home’ for women and girls was introduced to prevent them from exploitation and to support their rehabilitation and survival.

The scheme through the provisions of shelter, food, clothing, counseling, training, clinicaland legal aid aims to rehabilitate such women in difficult circumstance.” reads a report on Swadhar Greh, a scheme officially launched in 2015 by the Ministry Of Women and Child Development.
