RMC report that PSG have been somewhat put off by a demand made by 19-year-old Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt to include a €150m release clause in his contract, but have not abandoned signing the player from Ajax, although accept that they are no longer in pole position, with Juventus now taking up that mantle.

The outlet claims that there are two elements that Les Parisiens are opposed to that De Ligt is seeking to include in a deal. One, is a clause that will concern whether or not he enjoys himself in Ligue 1. The other, is the €150m release clause.

PSG President Al Khelaifi has decided to institute a change in tone and approach to the club starting from this summer, which requires any new recruits to be entirely committed to the project and the put an end to “superstar” behaviour.

These demands by the Dutchman stand in direct conflict with this policy, and has led Les Parisiens to become a lot more unenthusiastic about closing a deal with De Ligt. In any case, they appear to be continuing to attempt to conclude a deal whilst excluding these two requests from an eventual contract.

Juventus in the meantime are willing to include this release clause, whilst PSG aren’t able to because such clauses are made illegal by French football’s governing body, the LFP.

A source at PSG had the following to say on the situation: “Having barely arrived, when you are already asking for provisions to depart, it is not classy and above all that suggests that you do not want to invest yourself into a project long-term.”
