Pre-Filled Voter Registrations Mailed To Dead Relatives, Pets

PASCO COUNTY, FL – If you recently received a mailer from the Voter Participation Office addressed to a long-deceased relative or the family dog, ignore it.

Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian E. Corley said Pasco County voters are again being bombarded by misleading mailings from Washington, D.C.-based organizations.

Corley said as many as 13,000 registered Pasco County voters may have been targeted by the Voter Participation Center and the Center for Voter Information in Washington, D.C.

According to Corley, in the past, these organizations have used outdated and often incorrect data to mail pre-filled Florida Voter Registration Applications to voters who are already registered, to deceased family members, to children who are not voting age and even to the family’s pet dog or cat.

He wants voters to know that the mailings didn’t come from his office.

“Previous mailings from VPC and CVI have yielded many angry phone calls from residents who mistakenly think the information came from our office,” said Corley. “My staff is left to mitigate the fallout from these confusing mailings, and more concerning is the propensity of errors and inaccuracies to further erode voter confidence at a time when it desperately needs to be bolstered.”

He said these two organizations are in no way associated with the State of Florida, the Florida Division of Elections or any elections’ official.

Voters should direct their questions, complaints and concerns about the mailings directly to VPC’s toll-free number, 877-255-6750, or CVI’s toll-free number, 202-766-6575.

“In today’s climate of security risks and identity theft, these mailings create suspicion and mistrust,” he said.

Any voters with questions regarding their voting status can visit the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections website.
