MSUM Wrestling to Compete at Midwest Classic This Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team wraps up the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule this weekend at the 41st annual Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. the University of Indianapolis is the host with wrestling beginning at 9 a.m. Central time both days.

Sophomore Mason Schulz is 11-6 at 141 for MSUM while sophomore Evan Foster is 10-6 at 174 and senior Zach Scott 11-7 at 149. Junior Mitch Kotschevar is 9-7 at 184.

Last Time Out: MSUM Crowns 3 Champs at Dragon Open
Senior Zach Scott went 3-0 at 149, opening with a pin of Northland’s Jerimiah Pierre in 1:49, and following with a pin of Dylan Hanson in 2:49 in the semis. In the finals he recorded an 11-2 major decision win over Northern State’s Adam DeBoer.

Sophomore Ryan Stenson also went 3-0 at 157. He pinned Itasca’s Davion Barnes in 4:24 to open the tournament and then topped Minot’s Brody Mohr 6-2. In the finals, he beat freshman teammate Josh Irwin by an 11-3 major decision. Irwin went 2-1 to finish second.

Sophomore Justin Dravis was the third Dragon champion of the day. He pinned Northland’s Kaven Blazek in 2:36 and then pinned Riley Mitchell of Mary in 3:13. In the finals he edged Mary’s Evan Frisque 4-2.

Sophomore Evan Foster continues to wrestle well, going 3-1 and placing second. He won two matches by major decision and one by fall to reach the finals before falling to NDSU’s Austin Brenner 8-3.

Junior Cory Schmidt (197) and sophomore Joey Nerdahl (133) each went 1-1 and took second.
