The Big Ten announced the pre-seeds for the upcoming Big Ten Championships on March 9-10 and the Gophers were one of only five teams in the conference to have seeded wrestlers in all ten weight classes.
Heavyweight Gable Steveson leads the pack with the top seed in his weight class after becoming the consensus top-heavyweight in January of this year. Steveson, an Apple Valley, Minnesota, native, is 27-0 to begin his college career.
Transfer Sean Russell received the three-seed at 125-pounds after a 22-3 season with his only losses coming to top-five wrestlers nationally.
Minnesota native Tommy Thorn was given the four-seed as he searches for his third Big Ten placement.
In his first season as a Gopher since transferring from Indiana, 174-pound Devin Skatzka was named the five-seed after 22 victories, including eight major decisions.
Three wrestlers, 141-pound Mitch McKee, Steve Bleise, and Ethan Lizak, were all named the sixth-seed at their respective weight classes.
Rounding out the seedings for the Gophers 197-pound Dylan Anderson received the seven-seed, 165-pound Carson Brolsma received the eight-seed, and 184-pound Brandon Krone got the 12-seed.
Big Ten Championships Pre-Seeds
The Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be hosted at Williams Arena in Minneapolis for the first time since 2008.
