Elemen, Van Auken garner 2019 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II weekly honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Fort Lewis’ Angelique Elemen and Valdosta State’s Caylie Van Auken were named 2019 Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees for games played Feb. 4-10.

Elemen had a record-breaking weekend for the Skyhawks, setting program records for career home runs (43) and RBI (148). Over five games, she batted .529 with nine hits, four of which left the yard, two doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored. Elemen recorded three multi-hit contests, slugged 1.412 and posted a .579 on-base percentage. The senior from Litchfield Park, Ariz. homered against Hawai’i Pacific, MSU Billings, Western Washington and Northwest Nazarene. Elemen recorded two hits (2B, HR), two RBI and two runs scored against MSU Billings and collected three base knocks (2B) with an RBI and run scored versus Central Washington. The RMAC Hitter of the Week tacked on two more hits (2B) and scored twice in a win over Northwest Nazarene.

Van Auken posted a 2-0 mark with a 0.40 ERA to help the Blazers to a 4-1 showing at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic. Holding opponents to a .143 batting average, she fanned 23, did not walk a batter and surrendered just one extra-base hit in three appearances. Van Auken twirled a pair of shutouts against No. 18 Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne. The sophomore from Seminole, Fla. struck out nine in each of those outings, scattering four and three hits, respectively. Van Auken, who was selected Gulf South Pitcher of the Week, also struck out five, in 5.2 innings of relief versus Tampa.
