The wrestling world has responded to the Brodie Lee Celebration of Life tribute edition of AEW Dynamite.
Pro Wrestling Tees announced on Wednesday night that AEW’s Brodie Lee tribute T-shirt set their company record for sales in a 24-hour period in less than two hours, before the tribute episode of Dynamite was even finished. Pro Wrestling Tees then announced that the T-shirt had become the highest selling shirt of 2020 in just under four hours.
AEW President Tony Khan noted that he purchased the rights in perpetuity to Tom Waits’ “Ol’ 55,” which was the song used in the show-closing tribute video for Lee.
“Thank you everyone who joined us tonight on #AEWDynamite to celebrate the life of Jon Huber, known to fans as Mr. Brodie Lee,” Khan tweeted. “It was a great honor to host his family Amanda, Brodie & Nolan. I bought the rights to Ol’ 55 by Tom Waits in perpetuity so that tribute will last forever.”
On AEW Dynamite’s post-show, Tony Schiavone mentioned that Brodie Lee Jr. will keep the TNT Championship belt that was given to him at the end of the tribute show. The title given to Brodie Lee Jr. was the real TNT title belt. Darby Allin, the current TNT Champion, will receive a new belt.
Both AEW and WWE talent took to social media to praise last night’s Dynamite and to pay tribute to Lee. Big E, Sasha Banks, Mustafa Ali, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn, Bayley, Cody Rhodes, Anna Jay, Tony Schiavone, Bryce Remsburg, and Lance Archer are some of the names who tweeted their thoughts:
