Augustana Returns from Holiday Break for the Warrior-Viking Open

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana wrestling team returns to the mat after a week off for the holidays. The Vikings travel to Fremont, Neb. for the Warrior-Viking Open on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 9 a.m.

The Warrior-Viking Open will be held at the Hopkins Arena hosted by Midland University. The meet will feature 32 teams, including Nebraska, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Fort Hays State, Lindenwood, Nebraska-Kearney and St. Cloud State.

Juniors Clayton Wahlstrom (197) and Colin Ayers (141) lead the Vikings on the year with 13 wins apiece. Senior Oscar Ramirez Jr. (149) and junior Bailey Neises (157) each have 11 wins on the season.

Last time out, Augustana wrestled at the rugged Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, sparring with multiple ranked opponents. Ramirez Jr. was the lone Viking to place, finishing sixth at 149 pounds. Regan Bye was the only other wrestler to advance to day two of the Midwest Classic.

Next up for Augustana, will be its first NSIC dual of the season. The Vikings will take on Northern State at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Elmen Center.
