President Obama authorized on Friday an additional 1,500 troops to be sent to Iraq, the Associated Press and CNN are reporting.

The additional forces, which would bring the number of U.S. troops there to roughly 3,000, would carry out advising and training of Iraqi security forces, U.S. officials said.
