SMSU ready for Doane University Open on Saturday

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team is preparing to compete at the Doane University Open in Crete, Neb., on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

SMSU will send 13 wrestlers and 10 unattached wrestlers to the teams’ fourth and final open of the 2018-19 season.

SMSU has a 0-1 record overall and in the NSIC, following a loss to conference favorite St. Cloud State on Nov. 29.

SMSU placed eight wrestlers at the Buena Vista Open last week in Storm Lake, Iowa. Cole Hennen (184), led the team going 3-1 to take third, followed by Ben Emrich (125) who went 2-2 to earn fourth, Cortez Arredondo (157) and Griffin Osing (174) went 5-1 to both take home fifth, Hunter Connor (185) went 2-2 to earn sixth, Ben Thompson (197) went 5-1 to also earn sixth place, Andrew Petersen (285) went 5-1 to earn seventh, and Justin Haneke (149) went 3-2 to finish at eighth place.
