Basic pools of Champions League 2008/09 are almost finished. Many interested fights are still missing! Last round has to be played on the same day, January 21.

Iraklis Thessaloniki is the winner of Pool A with five victories. Thessaloniki had problems only in Czestochowa in the second round. CSKA Sofia has no more chance to qualify to next round due to five lost.

In the same position as Thessaloniki is Dynamo Moscow with 10 points in Pool B. Dynamo won the last game 3:0 in front of home spectators over Noliko Maaseik and secured first place in the Pool B.

Lube Banca Marche Macerata has already qualified for the next round after the fourth pool mach. Macerata has played with the bench players in Roeselare. Knack Randstad Roeselare defeated italian team 3:1 and secured spot in the next round of Champions League.

Important match has been played in Paris. With the victory over Zenit Kazan Paris still has chance to be second in the pool D. Piacenza will host Paris Volley in the last round while Kazan will meet Piet Zoomers Apeldoorn.

Winner of Pool E, team of Itas Diatec Trentino, assured first place in pool. Trentino did not give any chances to Beauvais Oise and with all star on the court claimed 3:0 victory.

The most tense pool is the pool F. All teams has still chance to qualify for the next round. VfB Friedrichshafen surprised Iskra Odintsovo. German team was not favourite in Russia, nevertheless managed to gain 3 sets and two points into ranking. PGE Skra Belchatow has only in the third set problems with the serve of Panathinaikos. The rest of the game was under their control.

The last round of basic pools will bring interesting fights. Roeselare has to confirm qualification to next round in Mallorca. Copra Berni Piacenza can terminate Parisian dream of the next round. Panathinaikos Athens will not give any point for free to Iskra Odintsovo. Friedrichshafen need to beat Belchatov to be sure of the Champions League next round.
