LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior shortstop Nicole Nobbe of Cal State San Bernardino and junior Caitlyn Calhoun of Valdosta State were named NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively for games played over Feb. 10-15.
Nobbe was on fire in seven games, batting a staggering .727 (16-22) and recording a .793 on base percentage from the leadoff spot. The Merced, Calif. native scored at least one run in every game with four multiple run-scoring contests and finished the week with 12. She also posted four doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and five walks, while also getting plunked twice. In addition, the California Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week (CCAA) notched six multiple-hit contests, including a four-hit effort against Simon Fraser and three-hit games versus Minot and Northwest Nazarene, all at the Desert Stinger Classic. At that tournament alone, Nobbe batted .800 (12-15) and scored 10 times.
Calhoun was a perfect 3-0 with a 0.70 ERA in three complete-game efforts to help the No. 2-ranked Blazers post a 4-1 mark last week. The junior righty struck out 29 batters and walked just two in 20 innings of work. She twirled a one-hit shutout (8K, 0BB) at Albany State to start the week. In Valdosta State’s opening Gulf South series at Shorter, the Hamilton, Ohio native opened the three-game set with a complete-game four-hitter in which she surrendered a run and struck out 12. She secured the series allowing just a run on eight hits with nine more punchouts in rubber game.
