Prior to the convention on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 coaches have their choice of two courses – 406 (Coaching Dynamic Team Practices) and 407 (Winning Strategies For Game-Day Coaching). From Dec. 5-7, coaches can choose from either 401 (The Art of Championship Coaching) or 403 (Position Play and Individual Defensive Skills).
Taught by NFCA Interim Executive Director Carol Bruggeman, Michigan’s Carol Hutchins and Softball Excellence owner Cindy Bristow, Course 406 examines the factorsthat must be considered when teaching softball skills and taking those skills to the next level. The class starts in the classroom and moves to the field-indoor facility for demonstration and evaluation of different types of practices and drills.
Course 407, instructed by Tennessee’s Karen Weekly, Alabama’s Patrick Murphy and Kentucky’s Rachel Lawson, focuses on the game-day experience. You will develop and apply the skills of coaching through observation, analysis of game clips and real-time strategy decisions.
Coaching is more than skills and strategies. In Course 401, discover WHY you coach. Find out who you are, who you want to be, and who you need to be as a championship coach. Bristow, former Iowa head coach Gayle Blevins and Nebraska skipper Rhoda Revelle headline this class.
Lastly, Course 403 emphasizes how to analyze and teach the skills required to play each of the nine softball positions and is taught by LSU’s Beth Torina, Washington’s Heather Tarr and retired Hofstra head coach Bill Edwards.
Courses are open to everyone and cost $225 for members and $250 for non-members.When two or more coaches from the same staff or travel ball organization register for ANY class, the first coach pays the advertised fee and all additional coaches from that staff receive a $100 discount.
