Your Guide to Tuesday’s Ligue 1 Action

Tuesday: Monaco vs Bastia (18:00 GMT)

Monaco will be out to respond to their defeat to Angers as Bastia visit the Stade Louis II on Tuesday. The hosts suffered a comprehensive loss against their high-flying rivals at the weekend, a result that saw Angers close the gap between themselves and second to just two points. Monaco have the chance to temporarily extend their lead to five if they win here, but with so many teams chasing a European qualification spot this year, they can ill afford any more slip-ups.

Bastia, meanwhile, head into this match on the back of an impressive 1-0 win over Lyon at the weekend. The sacking of Ghislain Printant may have come as a surprise to many, but Bastia produced the goods on the field and moved five points clear of the drop zone. Another shock win here would do the world of good for their attempts of avoiding relegation.

Earlier this season, Monaco beat Bastia 2-1 at the Stade Armand Cesari.

Tuesday: Montpellier vs Marseille (20:00 GMT)

Fresh off the back of a 4-0 victory at the weekend, Montpellier prepare to take on Marseille at the Stade de la Mosson on Tuesday evening. The hosts spectacularly ended a four league game losing streak by hitting Gazelec Ajaccio for four away from home at the weekend, so Frederic Hantz’s men should be full of confidence for this one.

Marseille, meanwhile, snatched a last-gasp equaliser away at Lille last time out, extending their unbeaten run in the league to 10 games. However, only three of those games have resulted in victories, and manager Michel knows his side need to up their game if they are to avoid being left behind in the fight for the league’s European qualification spots.

Earlier this season, these two sides drew 2-2 at the Stade Velodrome.
