After weeks of speculation, Youri Tielemans’ move to Monaco has finally been confirmed, with the Belgian moving to Ligue 1 for around €25m.

With multiple clubs across Europe looking to sign the 20-year-old, it’s the French champions who have pulled off the deal, with Tielemans signing on a five-year-deal.

The former Anderlecht captain broke into the side at the age of 16 and many around Europe were excited about the talent this young star had. He was heralded for his skill on the ball, particularly his passing ability and incredible vision, and word about Tielemans quickly travelled across the continent.

Clubs like Manchester City and Manchester United had been looking to sign the midfielder, but Monaco stole a march on the pair to seal the deal.

“Monaco is a club with an ambitious project, recognized on the European stage, and which relies on young player”, said Tielemans. “I am very happy to be here. I will now do everything possible to progress at Monaco and repay the confidence the club have shown in me.”

AS Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev added: “We are very happy because it proves the increasing attractiveness of our project. His arrival is in line with our strategy of recruiting talented young players.”
