Randy Orton Reveals How Close He Was to Actually Leaving WWE Before Re-Signing

Randy Orton made a lot of noise in the months leading up to signing a brand new, long-term contract with WWE this past week, dropping hints left and right that he might be bound for All Elite Wrestling once his previous deal expired in 2020.

The “Viper” sat down with Corey Graves this week on a new edition of the After The Bell podcast to discuss, among other things, his contract situation and how close he really was to actually leaving the company. As expected, Orton pretty much confirmed that he had no plans on leaving, and says he’s very happy in his current position with WWE.

“This might be upsetting for some people, but I never really saw myself leaving WWE. I started here, my father was here, my grandfather wrestled for Vince’s father – you know what I mean? There’s a lot of history. I could have left, and I could have come back, but why? I’ve made it here this long, and I really shouldn’t have. Against all odds I’m still here, and Vince and I were able to come to terms. Like I said, I’m happy. To me it was about getting to a point where I’m happy, and what I’m doing to my body, the amount of time that I’m gone from my family – in the end, it’s all gotta be worth it. That’s where I’m at right now, so I’m definitely happy being a WWE Superstar.”
